[00:05.80]Murdoch:No I didn’t know whether it would be eight, or eleven or twelve,
[00:08.96]but it was very thrilling and it was just great to be there to share the moment of triumph for Jim Cameron, the director,
[00:16.25]because it was very much his film. We signed the checks, we paid for it,
[00:20.98]we had the faith in him. But it was his talent.
[00:24.71]Yang Lan:Could you describe to us when the first idea of Titanic was brought to you and how did you react to it?
[00:31.40]Murdoch:Well, Cameron is under contract to make his films or give all his first ideas to us and he pushed very hard to make this story.
[00:40.07]He was quite passionate. He wanted to do it. We were very nervous because there had been previous pictures about Titanic and pictures that are made out on the sea always go over budget,
[00:50.18]can be very expensive. But he just wouldn’t let go of the idea. He drove in and drove it and drove it.
[00:55.95]And we finally said yes and then when we saw what we thought it would cost, we said well,
[01:03.40]we’ll do it, we’ll one up, but it would be nice to have a partner.
[01:06.01]So we invited another studio to put up quite a lot of money, which they did. And they’ve done well too.
[01:12.28]Yang Lan:Was that a sign of doubtness of the soundness of this film?
[01:16.64]Murdoch:Making pictures is always very, very risky. And this was a big risk,
[01:23.83]so we were a little cautious. Now of course, we would have preferred to keep it all but we did the right thing.
[01:33.26]Yang Lan:OK. So, do you think you have given up too much to Paramount in return of...?
[01:38.35]Murdoch:No we get 60 percent of the profits. And that’ll be a lot of money.
